Quizzes & Assignments

A quiz is a named set of questions with a pass score. You build it from the question bank, publish it, and assign it to users.

Go to Training → Quizzes. The Quizzes view on the left is selected by default.

Creating a Quiz

  1. Click New quiz.
  2. Enter a Name (e.g., “Forklift Safety, Week 1”) and an optional description.
  3. Set the Pass score, a whole number from 1 to 100. This is the percentage someone needs to pass. It starts at 80.
  4. Click Create quiz. The quiz opens on its Questions view.
  5. Under Available Questions, search for questions and add them. Open Filters to narrow by type or document, or to show verified questions only. Add all adds everything that matches.
  6. Reorder or remove questions as needed. A quiz can have up to 50 questions.
  7. Click Save questions.

The quiz starts as a draft. Nobody can take it yet.

The four views

A quiz has 4 views on the left:

ViewWhat It’s For
OverviewName, pass score, and description.
QuestionsThe questions in the quiz and the picker to add more.
AssignmentsWho has been assigned, their status, and the Assign button.
ResultsScores by user and by question.

Overview and Questions each have their own save button. A dot next to the view’s name means it has unsaved changes.

Quiz Statuses

StatusWhat It Means
DraftStill being built. Can’t be assigned.
PublishedLive. Can be assigned and taken.
ArchivedRetired. Nobody can start it, and it disappears from users’ to-do lists. Results from users who passed stay visible.

Click Publish when the quiz is ready. It needs at least 1 saved question, and any unsaved changes must be saved first. Click Archive when you’re done with it.

You can keep editing a published quiz. Changes apply to attempts started after you save. Attempts already taken keep the questions as they were.

Assigning a Quiz

  1. Open a published quiz, go to Assignments, and click Assign.
  2. Search for and select the users who should take it. Anyone who’s an active member of the site can be assigned.
  3. Optionally set a due date.
  4. Confirm.

The quiz shows up in each user’s My training tab, and they get a push notification on their phone.

Due dates

A due date is a target. If someone misses it, the quiz shows as overdue on their list and in your results, and they can still take it.

Removing an assignment

You can unassign someone as long as they haven’t started the quiz. Once they’ve started an attempt, the assignment stays so the record is complete.

Checking Results

Across all quizzes

Go to Training → Results. It lists every assignment: who it belongs to, which quiz, the status, best score, pass score, attempts, and the assigned, due, and passed dates.

  • Filter by user (pick one or more) and Filter by quiz narrow the list. The page opens on Not completed.
  • All, Not completed, Overdue, and Passed filter by where each assignment stands. Each shows its count.
  • Filters chooses whether to show active users (the default), inactive users, or both. Inactive users are no longer active members of the site.
  • Group by arranges the list by user or by quiz. Each group’s heading shows how many passed, how many are overdue, and the average score.

Click a row to open that quiz’s results.

For one quiz

Open a quiz and go to its Results view. You can also click View results on the quiz’s Assignments view.

Users shows each user’s status, best score, number of attempts, and when they passed.

StatusWhat It Means
Not startedAssigned, no attempt yet.
In progressThey’ve started an attempt and haven’t submitted it.
Not passed yetThey’ve submitted at least 1 attempt and haven’t hit the pass score. They can retake.
PassedDone. This is their proof of completion.

Questions shows how often each question was answered correctly, counting every submitted attempt, retakes included. A question most users miss is worth a look: either the material isn’t landing, or the question is unclear.

By user and question shows the same thing as a grid, so you can see who missed what.

A Realistic Example

Summit Concrete Cutting has a new saw safety manual.

  • The safety coordinator uploads the manual and generates 20 questions with the topic “handheld saw kickback.”
  • She verifies 14, fixes 2, and archives 4.
  • She builds “Saw Safety Certification” from 10 questions with a pass score of 80, publishes it, and assigns it to 6 operators with a due date of Friday.
  • By Friday, 4 have passed, 1 hasn’t started, and 1 has failed twice.
  • In Results, she sees that 5 of 6 users missed the same question about respirators. She rewrites it and covers the topic at Monday’s safety meeting.
