Chatting with Mason
After Mason generates pricing suggestions, you can open a chat panel and ask follow-up questions. Think of it like talking to a teammate who just priced the job and you want to know why.
Required role: Org Admin
Opening the Chat
- Generate pricing suggestions (see Pricing Suggestions).
- Click Chat with Mason in the dialog footer.
- A chat panel slides open on the right side.
What You Can Ask
Mason knows everything about the suggestions it just made: the comparable jobs it looked at, the line items it pulled from, and any context entries that were active. Some examples:
- “Why did you suggest $3.50/LF for flat sawing?”
- “What jobs did you base the removal price on?”
- “The customer wants a discount on haul-away. What would 15% off look like?”
- “We usually charge more for weekend work. Can you adjust?”
Mason keeps the full conversation in context, so you can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself.
Context Changes
If you add or remove AI Context entries while chatting, the chat starts a new conversation automatically. You’ll see a “Context changed” divider in the chat. This happens because the context set affects what Mason knows, and mixing old and new context in one thread would get confusing.
Conversation History
Click the History button in the chat header to see past pricing conversations. History includes:
- Conversations from this job
- Conversations from other jobs that share the same job type
Each entry shows the conversation title, which job it was from, the job types involved, and how many messages were exchanged. Click any entry to read the full transcript.
This is useful when you’re pricing a new job and want to see what was discussed on a similar one last month.
Saving a Conversation as Context
If a conversation produced useful pricing rules or decisions you want Mason to remember for future jobs, you can save it directly to the AI Context Catalog.
- Click Save as Context in the chat header (or in the transcript view when browsing history).
- Mason summarizes the conversation into a title and body.
- Review and edit the summary.
- The job types for this job are pre-selected as associations. Toggle them on or off, or add equipment types.
- Click Save to Catalog.
The saved context will be injected into future pricing suggestions for those job types automatically. See Saving Conversations for more detail.
